BAMC is an undergraduate degree course in Mass Communication.  B.A (Hons.) in Mass Communication program incorporates six semesters over 3 years. The BAMC degree at BFIT  is affiliated to HNB Garhwal Central University.

Over the last decade, a large number of colleges and universities have begun to offer communication education at the bachelor’s level, particularly, in the field of journalism. This is more as a response to the growth in the media industry rather than as a measure to promote responsible media practices.

Still, such mushrooming presents, both a challenge and an opportunity to institutions that understand the power and responsibility of media in society. One of the overall objectives of this program at  BFIT is to promote well – being in society through meaningful media practices.
Specifically, the objectives of this program are as follows :
• To provide a strong foundation in news media practices across different media.
• To promote an understanding of news media and their role in society.
• To promote depth in media education by laying a strong foundation in the study of arts

This field encompasses the full range of human experience of media—including affect, cognition, and behavior—in activities, events, theories, and practices. Media include all forms of mediated communication, such as pictures, sound, graphics, content and emerging technologies.

Personal Attributes: To become a journalist one should have an inquisitive mind, will power, an aptitude for presenting information in an accurate, concise and effective manner, organize their thoughts and to express themselves clearly both orally and in writing. At the same time a journalist has to be tactful, confident and organized while interviewing people from all walks of life. They must have the ability to sift relevant facts from the irrelevant. The ability to accept criticism and willingness to do considerable rewriting are also necessary. He/She should have excellent journalistic vision- awareness of the major or minor political and current affairs, communication skills, leadership quality and long term experience as an editor.
Editors must have the ability to write & edit articles, take speedy decisions, a questioning mentality and an awareness of current affairs
Reporter should have an analytic approach, perseverance, cool temperament, writing skill and self-confidence. He should have good contacts with various news resources and an ability to sense news.

Eligibility

• All students must have passed 10+2 or senior secondary examination with a minimum of 45% marks can join the BA (Hons.) Mass Comm course.
• The students are generally admitted on the basis of personal interview and written examination conducted by Institute.
• Institutes admit student on merit basis.

Career Scope

The strong influence of media over people’s daily life is one of the factors attracting youngsters to pursue a career in the mass communication industry. The other, is the many career prospects that a mass communications degree offers. As a mass communications graduate, you can aspire to work in any job role that requires constant communication.

A mass communication degree will prepare you to join the workplace immediately after graduation. If you have a technical mass communication qualification, the job avenues available to you include:

1. Copywriter – Responsible for writing the creative taglines and stories for different forms of advertising.

2. Journalism – You can work as a journalist for print, television, or radio.

3. Media planner – He/she is responsible for planning the use of different types of media, and managing the media expenses.

4. TV producer – Handles all aspects of production of a documentary, film, news, or television serial.

5. Camera person – The person who is literally working behind the scene!

6. Copy editor – Works in publication houses as editor for reviewing content submitted by other writers.

7. Public relations officer or PRO – Is responsible for handling the publicity of an organisation or for multiple clients.

8. Corporate communications – Like the PRO, the corporate communications executive is responsible for framing communication about the company with the press, investors, or with customers.

9. Event management – Hosting events such as weddings, trade shows, fashion shows etc.

10. Radio Jockey – Host shows on national and private radio channels.

    Admission Process

    1. Admissions in Under Graduate Course- BA in Mass Communication is on the basis of merit of Class XII marks and personal interview.
    2. You can fill the online registration form available on the website and pay Rs. 5000/- online as the registration fee. If interested and eligible, Apply Online here
    3. Alternatively, for the Seat registration you can deposit money by making Demand Draft in favor of BFIT payable at Dehradun by depositing the cash in ICICI Bank or you can transfer money from any bank through RTGS/NEFT.
    4. Selected students will be intimated over email/phone.
    5. On the date of scheduled joining time the student shall report at the venue on time, wherein briefing of the institute, rules and regulations etc. shall be given to the students. The students should carry the following documents along with the following certificates in original for verification:

    * 8 passport size photographs.
    * TC & Migration Certificate.   *Character certificate from the last school attended.
    * 10th class mark sheet & passing certificate.
    * 12th class mark sheet & passing certificate.
    * 3 sets of photocopies of all the above documents.
    * Copies of extracurricular/sports or any other major achievement done on basis of which additional consideration is being made.

    Upon verification of the above documents, the candidates shall appear for their Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
    1. If any of the above mentioned documents are not available, then the admission given shall be provisional basis unless submitted. The required documents will have to be submitted latest by 25th July 2018.
    2. The merit list is drawn on the basis of weightage as under-

    Class 12th – 50%
    Personal Interview – 50%

    A merit list will be drawn on the basis of above. Those shortlisted, an offer/short listing letter will be sent to them. On Receipt of the above letter, students need to confirm their admission within 15 days of receiving the communication and deposit the course fee.

    1. Students confirmed for admission shall have to deposit the balance fee for the first year within next 30 days of confirmation of admission. Those students wishing to avail a bank loan and requiring extra time shall make a request within 3 weeks of confirmation of admission. Additional time to deposit the fee or as deemed fit by the selection committee will be granted only on an undertaking that in case the fee is not deposited till the due date, the seat may be allotted to another candidate.
