B.Sc. Biotechnology : Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology
B.Sc. Biotechnology is a 3 years regular degree program, divided into 6 semesters. The B.Sc. Biotechnology degree at BFIT is affiliated to HNB Garhwal Central University.
Biotechnology is a field of applied biology that involves the use of living organisms and bio-processes in engineering, technology, medicine and other fields requiring by products. It deals with the development & utilization of biological things, forms or systems to obtaining maximum benefit to human or other living things.
Biotechnology is a rapidly developing branch of biology and is highly interdisciplinary. The biological sciences aspect deals with research and development in areas such as Microbiology, Cell biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology etc. for understanding the occurrence and treatment of diseases, development of agriculture, food production, protection of the environment and many more. The industrial processes aspect deals with the production of drugs, vaccines, bio-fuels and pharmaceuticals on an industrial scale using biochemical processes and techniques.
Some of the best innovations and developments that have come out of Biotechnology and allied fields are: genomics sequencing technology, natural alternatives to pesticides, production of bio-fuels and developments in stem cells technology.
The Biotechnology Industry is growing at a rapid rate and taking admission at BFIT will help you to increase your knowledge. Today, Indian biotech sector consists of more than 1000 companies generating revenues of about US$ 1.3 billion approx.
