BAMC : BA(Hons) Mass Communication
     

BAMC is an undergraduate degree course in Mass Communication . The BAMC degree in BFIT is conferred at the convocation held by HNB Garhwal University. The B. A.(Hons) Mass Communication program incorporates six semesters over three years.
Over the last decade, a large number of colleges and universities have begun to offer communication education at the bachelor's level, particularly, in the field of journalism. This is more as a response to the growth in the media industry rather than as a measure to promote responsible media practices.
Still, such mushrooming presents, both a challenge and an opportunity to institutions that understand the power and responsibility of media in society. One of the overall objectives of this program in BFIT is to promote well - being in society through meaningful media practices.
Specifically, the objectives of this program are as follows :
• To provide a strong foundation in news media practices across different media.
• To promote an understanding of news media and their role in society.
• To promote depth in media education by laying a strong foundation in the study of arts
This field encompasses the full range of human experience of media—including affect, cognition, and behavior—in activities, events, theories, and practices. Media include all forms of mediated communication, such as pictures, sound, graphics, content and emerging technologies.
The need for communication specialists in almost every company, institution, and organization provides endless possibilities for the profession.
Personal Attributes: To become a journalist one should have an inquisitive mind, will power, an aptitude for presenting information in an accurate, concise and effective manner, organize their thoughts and to express themselves clearly both orally and in writing. At the same time a journalist has to be tactful, confident and organized while interviewing people from all walks of life. They must have the ability to sift relevant facts from the irrelevant. The ability to accept criticism and willingness to do considerable rewriting are also necessary. : He/She should have excellent journalistic vision- awareness of the major or minor political and current affairs, communication skills, leadership quality and long term experience as an editor.
Editors must have the ability to write & edit articles, take speedy decisions, a questioning mentality and an awareness of current affairs
Reporter should have an analytic approach, perseverance, cool temperament, writing skill and self-confidence. He should have good contacts with various news resources and an ability to sense news.

Eligibility:
• All students must have passed 10+2 or senior secondary examination with a minimum of 45% marks can join the BA (Hons.) Mass Comm course.
• The students are generally admitted on the basis of personal interview and written examination conducted by institute or on merit basis.

They can find employment with newspapers, periodicals and magazines, central information service, press information bureau, websites, AIR and TV channels like Doordarshan, ZEE TV, Star TV etc. At the same time they can do freelancing. One can also take up this career as a part time employment along with any other field of work.
Career Options in Journalism Journalists can work as editors, chief editor/resident editor, sub editor, news/feature editor, associate editor, reporters, columnists, correspondents, staff or freelance writer, photojournalists, proofreaders, news analysts etc. in print (newspapers and magazines) and electronic (Radio, Television and Web) media.
.Job Prospectus: They can find job with newspaper groups, publishers of magazines and journals, Indian Information Service of the Government, websites etc.
Proofreader, Reporter , Correspondent/Special Reporters, Feature writer, Leader, Writing for Multimedia and the , Columnist, Critic, Photo Journalist or News Photographer, Fashion Journalist, Cartoonists and illustrators Other departments included in the publication of a newspaper or periodical are : production, advertising, legal affairs department, circulation and public relations.
Mass communication is a vast field covering many areas under it. Some of the areas for the employment are PRINT JOURNALISM, ELECTRONIC MEDIA, ONLINE MEDIA, ADVERTISING, PUBLIC RELATION.
